The Story of the Willow Tree

The Uncommon Willow is named partly for a willow tree that was outside my kitchen window.  I have been “crafting” for many years - from Christmas decor to paper products to vinyl applications, and everything in-between.  I’ve tried several “cute” names for what I did, trying to showcase the finished results.  I was never completely happy with the results, partly because I didn’t want to sound like someone who had a hobby and played around with crafts.

After my husband died in 2014, I found myself a bit adrift.  I moved from where we’d been living to a house in the country and outside my kitchen window was a very gnarly willow tree. In the summer, when it was fully covered in leaves, it looked perfectly normal.  In the winter, after the leaves had fallen, you could tell that it had weathered many storms - much like I felt I had done.  In addition, I would often see a cardinal perched on the branches, many times appearing to look right at me through the kitchen window.  That tree, and that cardinal, would soothe my troubled mind and I would often walk away smiling.

When it came time to pick a name for the broad spectrum of things I do, I knew the willow tree and the cardinal had to be a part of it.  So, I am the Uncommon Willow.  I hope you can find something in the things I lovingly create.  I do consider myself an artist and my canvas incorporates many different mediums.  Thank you for visiting and I hope you come again!
